Image of the Week: The North Window from Turret Arch, Arches National Park, UtahSee them while they last. On August 4th, 2008, a big piece of rock in Arches National Park demonstrated the cumulative effects of gravity, water, wind, and time. Wall Arch, one of the most accessible and well-known natural arch formations in the park, collapsed unseen and unheard. That's not to say that this was a bad thing, or a sign of something wrong. On the contrary, this is just the natural process of erosion. Natural arches aren't permanent features; the existing crumble while the new are continually created. This week's image is of another famous arch from that national park. Actually, two to be exact. Turret Arch, in the foreground, frames The North Window at late sunset. Have questions or comments?
