Vermont Morgan Horse

In Weybridge, Vermont the University of Vermont maintains the historic Morgan Horse Farm, where for more than a century breeders and trainers have been keeping the prized Morgan bloodline alive. Renowned for their noble spirit, feats of strength, and gentle disposition, the Morgan has emerged as one of the preeminent American breeds.

They are magnificent animals, proud and trained to perform. Most people only know the glamorous side, with the horses portrayed in rigidly-posed paintings set in pastures with bucolic barns and fences in the background, or hitched to carts with drivers dressed in their Sunday-best riding clothes, guiding the animals around the interior of the show arena. The reality that Simison presents in this photographic monograph is no less idyllic, but it conveys the long hours and sweat that go into making the Morgan the icon it has become.

The Deluxe Edition of Vermont Morgan Horse is available as a collectible hardcover monograph, accompanied by a handmade silver gelatin print of "UVM Mallory", the cover image. The book is signed and features thirty-six images from the portfolio in both color and sepia-tinted monochrome.

The accompanying silver gelatin print is handmade in the wet darkroom using traditional photographic printing methods. Once the image has been printed and archivally processed, the silver image is extremely fade resistant and should, with proper care and handling, last for generations. Each print is signed and titled on the verso, comes shielded in an archival plastic sleeve, and is accompanied by a care and handling document detailing the process and materials required to create the print.

An electronic version of the hardcover book is available for download in PDF format. It was authored and optimized for easy viewing on an Apple iPad and similar tablet computers, but will also display beautifully on laptops or desktop personal computers.
